When shopping for a robotic vacuum, eyeing the top brands is sure to skew your perception of typical prices towards the extremely pricey. Bots like the Roomba 980 and the Dyson 360 Eye ship with a laundry list of features and all of the best tech and specs, but you'll pay a hefty premium to get all of that. With the Mi Robot, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi seeks to bring a competitor to those bots right at the top of the heap, while saving customers a boatload of cash relative to those aforementioned big brands.
The top selling point of Xiaomi's Mi Robot, price aside, is its spectacular suction power. Capable of suction at pressures up to 1,800 Pascals—a higher pressure than that of even the Roomba 980, by comparison—the Mi Robot certainly impresses in this regard. However, suction power and air pressure isn't the end of the story of what makes a vacuum an effective cleaning tool—kicking up dirt and debris is just about equally important. To this end, the Mi Robot features two side brushes that push that kicked up dirt directly towards the suction inlet, as well as automatically adjustable height to handle different surfaces with equal efficiency. The Mi Robot's sensor array includes ultrasonic radar sensors, to build a "map" of your residence, as well as wall sensors, collision sensors, and cliff and drop sensors—a suite fit for a top tier robotic vacuum. Able to clean up to 250 square feet in two and a half hours on a single charge, the Mi Robot is, at its core, a well-made, promising product from one of the most accomplished tech companies in the world.
The Mi Robot is Xiaomi's first foray into the robotic vacuum market. Much of the growing hardware giant's initial success is owed to their lineup of smartphones, some of the best-selling of such products in the whole world. The company shows no signs of slowing their extremely rapid pace of growth; soon after succeeding big in the smartphone market, Xiaomi began expanding into everything from virtual reality, to drones, to laptops, to a whole assortment of "internet of things" products. If this is your first introduction to this company, expect to hear much, much more from them in the years to come.
It is a fantastic robot, very nice, clean very well, and does not make too much noise. The Xiaomi Mi Home app works great!
I've been using this to clean my house for a few days... It cleans very well on carpet and hard floor. Now my wife is very happy, one less job for her!
I've had the Xiaomi Mi for about a week now and it works quite well. The app is really easy to use and set up was also easy.
It does not clean as well as the 880. Carpet is the biggest enemy to this robot. It does not get under all the furniture like the 880 does. I want to love it but I can't.
I'm very impressed with this. The way it maps the room with the laser-scanner is incredible. Setup was quite simple... Very smart!
