Editorial Review

Pool cleaning bots are a curious lot. Some are rather Pac Man in appearance, only with a little handle for convenience of delivery. Others appear as little cars which scoot about, tethered to a shielded AC line as they do their dirty business. The tank-track approach is very popular as it allows for relatively unimpeded rolling, which is useful for pools with sharp transitions. A problem of pools with right-angle bottoms and sides is that the poolbot is unable to reach into the corners, much as its relative, the robovac, must contend with indoors. This is overcome with high levels of suction and water filtration combined with scrub brushes.

The Maytronics Dolphin Triton is capable of cleaning 50-foot, in-ground pools in around 3 hours. It operates with a combination of treads and scrubber rollers, which make it a demon for the edge work. Others, such as the Aquabot Turbo T-Jet, clean the pool surfaces and filter the water on edge tracks as well as forward and aft knobby rollers.

Like its less capable doppelganger, the Water Tech Blue Diamond, the Blue Diamond RC looks more like bubblegum than a precious mineral. The RC can be human-operated with a radio controller from up to 30 feet away from the sweeper, allowing the intrepid pool cleaning person the ability to narrow focus on specific areas of encrustation. Chemical and algae-resistant brushes made of polyvinyl alcohol – PVA – clean any pool surface quickly and efficiently. The Aqua Smart guidance system targets the areas of the pool most in need of attention while a state-of-the-art obstacle avoidance system keeps the Blue Diamond RC from entanglements with ladders or other obstructions. Something called the Beach Entry Detector keeps the poolbot from leaving the pool and traveling about on its own accord. The heart of the matter is an internal, reusable, microfilter bag which captures filth as diminutive as 2 microns. The Blue Diamond RC makes short work of dirt, silt, sand, and algae, and readily engulfs leaves and gravel. It even has a specially designed caddy-cart for above-ground transportation and convenient storage.

It's pricey but thoroughly cleans my pool in 1 hour...capturing even fine particles in a fine mesh, cloth bag...it's the best pool cleaner I have ever used.

Very Efficient, easy to clean, cleans to the tile line, sponge rollers scrub, easy to use, get's the job done... It is very quiet, only makes a satisfying gurgling sound.

My Blue Diamond has been trouble free to this point although I think the remote is rudimentary and not very intuitive, they could've done much better than that.

Great robotic pool cleaner. It is fast and convenient, easy to take in and out of the pool, and most of all, is inexpensive to operate. Truly a set-it and forget-it unit.

It has 2 cycles...cleaning is very thorough...I'm not sure what it did to the bottom of the pool but it looks the best I've ever seen it.
