The Wanhao Duplicator 6 is, like most of Wanhao's printer line, a decent enough knock-off to justify the unoriginality. The D6's price, at the time of reviewing, is a mere $500 cheaper than the copied product -- still fairly expensive as desktop 3D printers go. This is made up for with the overall high quality and consistency of prints the machine produces.
Critics of the Wanhao Duplicator 6 may take solace in the fact that this is a product line that has never really been coy about being a "duplicate" of conventionally successful models made by other brands. But while knock-offs are typically construed as unreliable rip-offs coasting off of another's good name or image, this particular knock-off is definitely worth a second glance.
The 3D printing community seems wont to compare every new printer to the Zortrax M200, a Polish-made beast of a product that displays actual, honest-to-goodness plug and play capability -- something promised by many a printer throughout the past few years, but altogether rarely accomplished.
The members of this community hold the Zortrax in high esteem -- and hold Chinese company Wanhao to a somewhat lesser standard. Many printer hobbyists have lambasted the new Wanhao Dupllicator 6 as being nothing more than a substandard Zortrax M200 with a new logo slapped on it, sold at a price cut. The similarities largely end at the aesthetic, as Wanhao's diminished price tag also comes with a diminished capacity for stellar production. This has led to many users becoming somewhat disenchanted with the brand, seeing the move as a petty effort to ride the coattails of an up and coming market leading product. However, as their customers have proven, Wanhao has found a winning formula in effectively replicating top of the line consumer printers on the cheap.
As expected from Wanhao this latest machine has been designed to provide super quality prints along with being ultra reliable, neat, easy to use and very hard working.
The Wanhao Duplicator 6 is a copycat of the famous Zortrax M200. Wanhao is known for making replicas of famous 3D printers (such as the MakerBot).
These copycat 3D printers often share the same qualities with the originals at a lower price.
We are especially pleased with the final product particularly as it is a very well designed sleek machine and sure to be our top seller of 2016.
