Editorial Review

Considering how inexpensive is, the Taotronics TT-AH003 is surprisingly attractive. Its design is both ancient and modern at the same time, looking a bit like a magic lamp that might produce a genie if rubbed the right way. The only genie in this lamp, though, is water vapor, but it can do magical things if humidity is low. You'll know that the humidity is low if your skin starts cracking around the knuckles from lack of moisture. While a humidifier like the Toatronics doesn't increase the humidity (which made up of an invisible gas commonly found in the air), but it produces a pretty good substitute: water mist, microscopically small droplets of water that float invisibly in the air where they find their way to your skin to prevent (or remedy) that cracking in your knuckles.

The Taotronics TT-AH003 has a 2.5-liter water tank, which really isn't all that large but will probably last the night out and do the job at a price that, for a new model, is hard to beat. There's no way to see into the water tank, but an LED on the side will glow green when the supply is adequate and red when you need to refill the tank. If you ignore the warning, the unit simply turns itself off when it runs out of water, saving you electricity and any wear and tear on the unit as it desperately gasps to produce droplets out of water that isn't there. To turn it off, just hold down the power button for three seconds. (Why they didn't simply make the button toggle the unit on and off is a mystery -- or perhaps a mistery.) The ceramic filter in the unit will rid the air of microorganisms, calcium, and magnesium ions, in case you were worried about all those ions wreaking havoc on the unsuspecting molecules in your body.

While the Taotronics is probably about the cheapest way to get a humidifier into your home, you might want to look at some other stylish units, most of which have larger water tanks. These include the Taotronics TT-AH004, the Air Innovations MH-701B, and the Dyson AM10.
