If you're tired of visiting McDonald's for your french fry fix, the T-fal ActiFry will let you toss in some sliced potatoes, add a little oil, and then sit back and relax. Before you know it, you'll have more fresh-cooked french fries in your pot than your appetite can handle (though that depends on how big an appetite you have for fresh fries). T-Fal claims that the ActiFry is the result of a decade's worth of research into a cooking system with a "unique stirring paddle and pulse heat system" that smoothly heats food throughout, including french fries. You can also make green beans, squash and saute chicken, if fries aren't what you happen to crave. The ActiFry can handle up to 2.2-pounds of food, which T-Fal estimates as four servings, and aside from adding the ingredients, you just have to turn it on (no warm-up is required) and set the timer.
While the term "frying" brings to mind unhealthy meals, the ActiFry works with small amounts of healthy oil, so you won't be producing a heart attack in a bowl every time you use it. Unlike some automated multicookers, you don't even have to choose your meal from a control panel to let the ActiFry know what you're making. That's because it's all about frying and nothing but frying. If you don't trust it (or there's nothing good on television), there's a steam-free window on top so you can watch your meal in progress. The pan, lid, paddle, and tablespoon are dishwasher-safe, so you can clean up the unit to make sure it doesn't carry the lingering taste of yesterday's dinner.
If you're not interested in frying, there are plenty of other multicookers on the market. For a pair of cookers that can do almost anything, look at the Instant Pot IP-Smart or the Gourmia GMC780. Or if you'd prefer slow cooking, check out Sunbeam's Crock-Pot 5-in-1 or Crock-Pot WeMo Smart.
This fryer is so easy to clean... It doesn't get grease all over the counter either. The features work as described... The fryer it self performs flawlessly...
As stated in some other reviews, when it operates, it smells like burning plastic and so does the food it cooks. I returned it.
Amazing kitchen gadget! Easy to clean... Press on, set timer and forget until it's ready. A time saver in the kitchen for people with a busy schedule.
