Pets, as do their people, come in all shapes and sizes, so it makes sense that automatic pet feeders do, too. Some shape up geometrically, like the circular Trixie TX6 or the rectangular PetSafe Pet Pod. Others look like other things -- for instance, the PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed resembles a coffee dispenser. And the CSF-3XL Automatic Cat Feeder from Super Feeder evokes images of an old timey standing scale.
Thematically, this is appropriate as the purpose of this bizarre contraption, like all automatic feeders, is to maintain portion control for either incurring weight loss or curbing weight gain. An issue of recurring concern with these feeders is the ability of the famished feline to finagle a paw into the food storage compartment, thereby negating the whole weight control thing. This proves not so with the CSF-3XL. Its hexagonal 1.5-gallon hopper can hold up to 1.8 gallons of dry food if used with 1 of the 2 supplied clear, plastic extensions. A polycarbonate chute cover, the placement of hardware at key seams, and the unique hopper shape all prevent the industrious cat from plundering the feeder. Manufactured in the USA, the CSF-3XL does not come with a timer. But it can be plugged into a timer of your choosing that will turn the power off and on according to your programming desires. The CSF-3XL can be accessed from anywhere with the WeMo Switch, a wi-fi enabled system available from Amazon, though food is best appreciated in direct proximity.
For optimal performance, it is recommended to use 1/4-inch spherical kitty kibble. The Super Feeder CSF-3XL comes with a heavy-duty mount/base with rubber feet, a dishwasher-safe bowl, assembly hardware, a low voltage power adapter with 6-inch cord, and instructions. It can also be mounted onto a wall to really make the cat earn it. The company website is difficult to navigate, but apparently there are other useful options available for the CSF-3XL with additional investment. Nonetheless, consumer consensus is that this product does a good job of keeping cats and raccoons to their respective diets, which certainly weighs in its favor.
You can program to run a large number of small feedings every day...large hopper makes 'restocking' jobs few...big and heavy for our cat to drag and drop.
Very adjustable to precisely dispense the amount of food per feeding...been in use now for about 2 months. Hands down, this is the best cat feeder on the market.
I like that the timer is external...easy to adjust to different sizes of food as well...This one is quiet enough that I don't hear it.
