Ah, the smell of fresh gardenias! And daisies, too! Actually, the Smiley Daisy Gardenia gives you the smell of a lot more than the two things in its name (or three things, if smileys have any kind of scent). The Gardenia is a nebulizer, which breaks aromatic oils into microscopically small particles light enough to float in the air and just....smell really good, if the oils contain a pleasant scent. More specifically, it's a device for aromatherapy, the form of alternative medicine (i.e., medicine for which there is no reliable scientific evidence) that uses the mists of essential oils taken from plants to help people de-stress or focus their minds. While there may be no evidence that inhaling these mists is actually therapeutic, nobody can question that you feel better when you have pleasant aromas around you.
The Gardenia is designed to work with JuJu Aroma Essential Oils, which by coincidence also happen to be made by Smiley Daisy and can be bought in a bundle with the Gardenia itself. A quick look at the JuJu Aroma website reveals that the JuJu oils come in a number of inviting-sounding scents such as Lavender, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Rosemary, Tea Tree and Sweet Orange, which I think we can all agree would be nice, relaxing odors to have around the house, especially if you're inviting a special friend over to spend the evening chilling to a movie on Netflix. "Would you like to do a little aromatherapy with me" might make a good pick-up line.
The Gardenia plugs into a wall outlet or USB port and includes a timer that controls not only how long it runs but sets the time that each burst of nebulized aroma lasts, allowing intervals of anywhere from 5 to 60 seconds, which should be enough to keep those oils droplets floating in the air for a good part of the day. Although it plugs into a USB port, there's no evidence in the product literature that the Gardenia has a smartphone app. But give them time.
There are other brands of essential oil diffusers on the market besides the Gardenia. For instance, you might want to take a look at the SpaRoom AromaMist.
This is by far the best Nebulizer I've ever had. This is great for therapeutic use of essential oils since they are not heated or diluted.
This nebulizer does not produce any visible smoke or air, making it difficult to inhale the benefits.
No hassle with water or constant cleaning. Handles citrus oils without a problem. I also love the flexibility of having multiple timer options!
