Editorial Review

The E100 is a basic e-scooter, a trait it has in common with the Razor E275, which is suited for 13-year-old riders and older, and may no longer be available. The E100 has a relatively safe 10-mph top speed, and is good for up to 40 minutes of continuous use. Considered an excellent beginner's scooter, it's probably advisable to start with it instead of the Razor Espark which, like the E100, is safe for 8-year-olds as well as those who love having sparks trail behind them. It is recommended to charge the batteries for 12 to 24 hours. The charger is included, and some assembly is required. Note that while Razor says that adults can ride this scooter, it may be best if they didn't because it's so small. Let the kids play with this one.

The electric scooter was invented in America in the early 1900s during a time of war and gas rationing. It was presumably ridden by adults and was quite effective, but it never really caught on there. Nowadays, so many serious adults use e-scooters to commute to and from work it's easy to forget that they were first marketed to children in the 2000s by none other than Razor, with their A model scooter. This original Razor was called a toy, and it was only 3 years later that the company added an electric motor to it. In the 21st century, the e-scooter is still considered a toy when ridden by kids, as demonstrated by the Razor E100.

This scooter is not to be confused with the Razor E100 Glow, although the only real difference between them is the latter's glowing LEDs. Both are for kids 8 years of age and older and have a carrying capacity of 120 lbs. The non-glowing E100 weighs a little less than its more glamorous sibling; otherwise, the specs are the same. This particular E100 has the same 24-volt sealed lead acid rechargeable battery system, all-steel frame and fork, kick-start, high-torque chain-driven motor, twist-grip acceleration, hand-operated front brake, 8-inch pneumatic front tire, urethane rear wheel, and retractable kickstand.
