Editorial Review

While the electric motor never made its mark on the roadways against the internal-combustion king, it is waging a war of attrition that is difficult to deny. Electric flying machines, mowing and mopping machines, swimming and sweeping machines and even driving machines are everywhere. The electric wheelchair has evolved into the electric mobility scooter.

In the mobility aid industry, American manufacturer, Pride Mobility, exists as a hearty contender. It was initially founded on the basis of power lift chairs, which assist the user from a sitting to a standing position, then expanded its line with mobility scooters such as the Pride Elite Traveller Plus 4. This scooter has the prerequisites for a functional mobility aid: good maneuverability, easy disassembly, high carrying capacity, long battery life, stability and decent storage.

Pride's Go-Go Sport 3 is the three-wheeled version of its Elite Traveller and possesses most of the same attributes: a front frame-mounted seat post; a microprocessor-based controller; a Delta tiller with wraparound handles -- the charging port is located on the tiller on this model; an off-board dual voltage charger for the batteries -- two 12 volt/ 18AH -- which are included; and 2 sets of changeable colored panels in red or blue.

The Go-Go Sport is considered a high-performance scooter. As such, it is unlike the Tzora Elite, which is another 3-wheeled, albeit much lighter, scooter. The Tzora Elite's carrying capacity tops out at 250 pounds but the Go-Go, at 92.8 pounds, can carry up to 325 pounds. It can go up to 4.7 mph with a driving range between 9 and 12 miles on a single charge. Best of all, the Go-Go features a tight turning radius of 36" and comes with LED front lighting.
