Editorial Review

To judge from user comments, feeding our pets is either a chore or an inconvenience. This could suggest that pet owners want all the joys of having a pet minus the work or time required for it. But if realistically considered, most people likely feel the same way about feeding themselves. Modern pet ownership was given a boon with the advent of such delightful accessories as robotic pet feeders. Robo-feeders like the saucer-shaped Andrew James 6 Day Pet Feeder and the colorful Lusmo Lusmo will do all the tiresome feeding without the pesky human intervention. That is, once the human programs the meal plans into them and stuffs the chow hopper with yummy kibble.

50 years ago, Petmate created the world's first dog kennel in Arlington, Texas, where many of their current products are still made. They source much of the plastic used in their manufacturing locally while utilizing eco-friendly manufacturing techniques. They also purchase post-industrial, pre-consumer, recyclable materials to reduce their carbon footprint. Go Petmate!

Many robo-feeders look like repurposed appliances. For instance, the PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed could be the Mr. Kibble pot. The Petmate Aspen Pet Lebistro Programmable Food Dispenser looks like a wide, squat blender. The Lebistro can be programmed for up to 3 differently sized meals per day. The top load feature makes refilling both convenient and easy. Available in medium or large, it has a 5 or 10-lb. weight capacity, and is good for feeding cats or dogs. Fairly lightweight at just over 5 lbs., it is battery operated, though 3 "D" batteries are not included. The main consumer concern seems to be that the dispenser occasionally spits out the food all at once, which is usually more pleasing to pet than owner.

I love the settings, very easy and effective. I can feed my cat the right amount at the right times even when I can't be home at the same time everyday.

Easy to setup, works as advertised. My cat is happy and no longer wakes me up in the morning to be fed.

I've owned this for about a year now and it's awesome. My cat is finally losing some weight because he's getting the right amount of food.

It accurately measures food (large dog food), and dispenses right on time with little noise or fuss. I bought it for my girlfriend, and she loves it. No regrets

I like the system except it keeps dumping more food after the dinner portion is dispensed. Overall it's a good purchase...

It works pretty well, easy to program. The only thing I have noticed so far is that sometimes if I stomp my foot anywhere nearby some food will come out.
