Editorial Review

There are a lot of electronic toothbrushes on the market, but the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 may be the only one that comes with facial recognition and position detection. So it may well be as smart as its name implies it is. It also comes with a shiny black veneer, which makes it stand out in a large market of white and off-white electric toothbrushes. Obviously somebody at Oral-B has been trying to come up with a way to differentiate this product from its competitors and they appear to have succeeded.

About that facial recognition and position detection: The Genius Pro pairs with your smartphone and uses the position detection to determine which parts of your mouth are getting brushed. That way, if you miss a spot, you'll get immediate feedback from its app (assuming you're sure that your smartphone is waterproof and can be trusted in the vicinity of a lot of spraying water). Having your phone coach you on how to brush your teeth may or may not be something you want, but it would certainly be useful for teaching your kids good oral hygiene practices. Plus, if there are any areas of your mouth that require special care (ask your dentist if you aren't sure), you can program the app to let you know if you've treated them with the extra attention that they deserve.

On top of all that, the Genius Pro looks a lot cooler than your average electric toothbrush. In addition to that black veneer, it has a 360 degree Smart Ring encircling the entire brush that glows with feedback about your brush pressure and whether your Bluetooth connection is working properly. Surely this is the kind of toothbrush that Luke Skywalker would own. (You didn't think he brushed his teeth with his light sabre, did you?)

For all of these features, the price on the Genius Pro is pretty reasonable, but if you don't want to spend that much on a toothbrush or don't want a smartphone app nagging you about your brushing technique, you could look at something less pricey, like the Oral-B Vitality Floss Action, the Philips Sonicare Flexcare+ or the Panasonic EW-DL82.

I love how easy it is for the heads to be changed... It truly is a cool toothbrush. It really does a wonderful job and it takes using it to see.

I've been using this toothbrush for a month now and my teeth feels amazing. The brush itself is great on its own... All in all - a brilliant piece of equipment!

After comparing several different electric toothbrushes, this one was the winner. I kept going back to this one, and I am very glad I did. Glad I purchased this!

When I got this new one - it felt 30 times more powerful. 2 minutes of teeth cleaning is a new treat. Happy with it. Also smaller in size than my previous one.

The toothbrush every household should have. Very good quality, excellent cleaning action, sensitive sensors to protect gums and a powerful battery.

It looks ridiculous and, as I have said, it doesn't work well at all. Not a smart device worth buying. Buyer beware.

I bought my Oral B genius about 2 months ago, and already it has stopped working. It doesn't receive charge anymore... Extremely disappointed!

Connect to the app does not work. This eliminates the purchasing argument. Sent back. Really bad. Poor test for the manufacturer.

I like the feel of my teeth after brushing. I was fascinated with all the settings... All in all, I have to say that this is the best toothbrush I've ever used and I love it.
