Editorial Review

The Neato Botvac D80 is an upgrade to the Botvac 80 and little brother to the Botvac D85 (itself an upgrade from the Botvac 85). The D80 has Neato's LaserSmart mapping feature so that it can attack the floor or carpet in a more or less logical order (though one reviewer points out that it can become tangled in wires, so move the power strips first). Like most botvacs, it can return to its charger when the batteries get low. Although it advertises a "high-performance" filter, it's not a HEPA filter, so don't expect the D80 to filter out microparticles. On the whole the D80 isn't that much different from the 80, but its online user reviews are good, suggesting that if you're looking for a new automated vacuum, the D80 is a good choice. If used or refurbished is okay, you might look for an older Botvac 80 instead.

It's hard to be sure, but perhaps the reason Neato began putting the letter D in the name of so many of their Botvac models is that they resemble -- yes -- the letter D. It's actually a clever shape for a vacuum and it's a wonder it hasn't been more imitated in the robotic vacuum cleaner community. The flying saucers that zoom automatically around so many living rooms and bedrooms are nice for rolling along surfaces without scuffing them, but put them in a corner and there's that last little pie-shaped piece of rug that they can't touch. The squared off corners on one side of the otherwise circular Neatos fit into that spot.

If you find the names of their models a little confusing, that's not surprising, especially given that they represent only part of Neato's line of autovacs. The Neatos come in so many different flavors that you have to read carefully before you know whether they fit your house, your pets and any allergic reactions you may have to animal dander.

This is the best investment we've purchase. This robot cleans better than our previous cleaning lady. All of our friends sees the vacuum and wants one immediately.

We used it once so far and did an excellent job and went right back to the charging station like it said.

I love everything about it. It really cleans well. The only draw back is it picks up so much dust, that you have to change the filter about every 10 days.

This does s great job. About 1/2 way through the lower level it has to go recharge, then comes out to finish.

Although the Botvac D80 is new, it doesn't really offer anything totally new. But if you're more concerned about clean floors ... the Botvac D80 proves its worth ...

I thought this product worked decently well when it was working, but it broke down within only 2 months. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Bad quality!

The robot does an excellent job and always finds its way back to its charging base. Huge time saving device. Highly recommended and by far the best robot vacuum on the market!
