Editorial Review

The abundance of personal drones available today is enough to oversate even the most data hungry of consumers. Options range from large to small, chic to cheap, barely controllable speedsters to easy enough for a monkey to learn on. And of course, all options are perennially playing catch up with the industry leader and go-to choice for small businesses specializing in flight photography -- the much vaunted DJI line.

The MJX x901 displays the second attribute in each contrasting set of adjectives listed previously -- something that may seem a surprise to those with experience flying small, cheap drones.

Listed far and wide at under $20 at the time of writing, the x901 is, quite positively, too inexpensive for some cutesy mitigating term like "value buy" or "cost-effective". This thing is dirt cheap -- even when compared to its miniature value brethren, such as the Syma Nano and the Blade Nano (I sense a lack of creativity behind these naming schemes).

The MJX x901's secret sauce is in its surpprising weight. At over three fourths of a pund, the x901 is almost twenty times the weight of each of the two Nano's listed earlier. This circumvents the issue experienced by many purchasers of miniature UAVs -- their relative weightlessness makes them extremely susceptible to drifting on their flight paths and fairly difficult to control, whereas users report that the x901 is "very easy and fun to fly."

Min drones are an excellent entry point for taking your remote controlled fun to the skies. With such a bevy of options to choose from, it can be easy to choose something that doesn't truly fit your needs, leaving you feeling gouged. A ridiculously low cost, the plethora of customer testimonials, and the stability afforded by the added weight qualify the MJX x901 as as close to a regret free purchase as exists.

This little drone is very durable! I'm an amateur flyer and i've crashed this thing multiple times and it hasn't broke... I would definitely recommend this product...

Little drone is amazing. I didn't think it was going to be as good as it is when I bought it. So I'm pleasantly surprised.

Flew this hexacopter a couple of times after receiving it. It severely pulls to the left, so maneuverability is greatly limited... I don't think I'd recommend it.

The MJX drone is absolutely terrible! It didn't fly on the second day when I was flying it. When i turned it on, the propeller on one end was not working for some reason.
