Editorial Review

Owing to the logistical improbability of taking it in for service and maintenance, the swimming pool is one of those rare possessions that warrants house calls. If the car breaks down, you have it towed to the automotive mechanic. Compound fractures? Someone will bring you to medical professionals to help you cope with them. If your pool filter gets clogged though, a trained technician will come to you, distressingly demonstrating that our appurtenances are taking precedence over our appendages.

To be fair, cleaning anything big generally requires going to it, and as a swimming pool is a big hole in the ground, it can’t just be driven down to the car wash and hosed off. Especially with all that water in it. So all manner of pool-bot have lowered themselves to the cleansing challenge. In fact, bots like the Smartpool Kleenmachine have specified that the bottom is where they operate exclusively. Others, like the Dolphin Primal X3, rise to the occasion and make that climb to scour the vertical surfaces as well.

Close relative to the Primal X3, the Maytronics Dolphin Triton joins the murky fray. A plug-and-play – or, more realistically, connect-and-clean – sweeper, you power it up, drop it in the pool and it will clean up on its own. Its patented swivel cable keeps it from becoming too caught up in itself. The Triton scans the pool to self-program the optimal approach to attacking the filth accumulations. Designed for in-ground pools up to 50 feet long, it cleans the bottom, coves and walls. The Triton scrubs and vacuums all surfaces in 3 hours, collecting detritus and sediment in the easy-to-use cartridge filter system. It comes with a caddy for convenient wheeling-about, and an optional remote control allows guided focus on areas of dire need.

I like the cartridges on the inside, easy to clean. Cleans the entire pool efficiently and costs a lot less to operate than the old pressure cleaner!

The filters are super easy to pull and clean and catch everything. It climbs the walls and sucks up leaves and pine needles with no issues. It made my life so easy.

It started out working well...stopped working intermittently after 2 months...poor design allows moisture into the pool cleaner power supply and prevents it from turning on.

We have had the Dolphin for about one week and are very pleased...I can honestly say the pool is cleaner than it has ever been. We are very pleased.

Does not climb walls very well and the only sweeping from the wheel brushes comes when the unit looses traction....floating cord tangles every cycle.

Easy to use and the caddy is very convenient...leaves nothing in the pool after the cycle is finished. The cartridges are easy to remove, clean, and replace.

Plug and go, very simple to use. Climbs walls like a champ. Makes quick work of our olympic size in ground pool...Great product. Well worth the price.
