The LitterMaid LM980 Self-Cleaning litter box is a bigger version of their Classic model: both boxy and utilitarian, the LM980 automatically scoops the cat’s waste into a sealed, disposable receptacle that uses a carbon filter to absorb and ideally remove odors. Timed, dual-motion sensors activate ten minutes after the cat has left the box to scoop and remove any new waste. The LM980 can also be manually activated as needed. The LM980 possesses a detachable rake mechanism, improved sidewalls to help prevent litter scatter, a paw-cleaning ramp to prevent the cat from tracking litter throughout the home, and a scoop and rake cleaner.
LitterMaid recommends regularly replacing litter and emptying and replacing the receptacles and carbon filters, especially if the LM980 is used by multiple cats. It includes 4 waste receptacles and 4 carbon filters, and is compatible with an AC adapter with battery back-up. Some users suggest lining the plastic waste receptacle with a grocery bag in order to extend the life of both the receptacles and your wallet's contents.
Ah, the joys of cat ownership! We give them food, shelter, love, and even pick up after them. In return, they give us indifference, snooty looks, fresh bird and lizard meat, and cat scratch fever. This latter gift is said to be caused by handling cat waste and litter, a health concern largely circumvented by the invention of the automatic litter box. One of the most recognizable manufacturers of litter boxes is LitterMaid -- helping us clean up after our felines for over a decade. Some of today's litter boxes are less boxy and more bubbly, like the Litter Robot Bubble. Others are made to resemble the pet owner's waste receptacle, like the CatGenie 120 Self-Washing. Yet both types function as the LitterMaid boxes in that they do the dirty work and the cat is none the wiser or friendlier for it.
Awesome litter box. 2 cats and no smell. It works great and you can use grocery bags in the container for easy clean up.
As far as the product itself, I really like how easy it is to keep clean and my cats like using a mess free box.
This is a great product and makes my life so much easier. All I do is trash the receptacle bin once a week and replace with a fresh one.
The bottom detaches from the unit so you can easily clean it. I put a bag into the plastic container so that the plastic container will last longer.
