Editorial Review

La Crosse Technology of Wisconsin bills itself as the "World Leader for Digital Weather Stations" and judging from the number of weather stations they make available via Amazon.com alone, this is almost certainly true. La Crosse has weather stations for almost every possible need or taste in household appliances, from the colorful and attractive La Crosse Technology 308-146 to the somewhat less expensive La Crosse Technology WS-9740U-IT-NL, with its on-screen LCD paper doll that changes clothing depending on the outside temperature.

The La Crosse Technology WS-7014CH-IT falls into the narrow price range between the two above models. It lacks the sleek elegance of the 308-146, but it has the barometer that the WS-9740U-IT-NL doesn't. And without a barometer, a digital weather station is little more than a glorified thermometer. A barometer tracks the movements of air masses and the fronts between them, so you'll know when winds and storms are going to come roaring over the horizon to disrupt picnics and ruin parades. The barometer for the WS-7014CH-IT is in the remote outdoor sensor, which communicates wirelessly with the free-standing unit that holds the battery-operated LCD display.

That display shows numeric representations of the time (from an atomic clock), date, indoor and outdoor temperature, and humidity. A smiley/frowny face tells you whether the humidity is in a comfortable range -- i.e., neither too dry nor oppressively humid -- and a picture of clouds or sunshine shows you the weather at a glance. According to La Crosse, it takes about three days for the WS-7014CH-IT to fully synchronize with the local weather. Additional external sensors can be added to monitor the weather in the basement, greenhouse or any other microclimates you want to keep an eye on.

We really love this weather station, which has all of the details of many other weather stations without the garish colors. Accurate, elegant little weather station!

Easy to set up right out of the box - with excellent instructions. Only thing I would have liked it an outside humidity indicator. Hangs nicely on the wall.

I had some initial difficulties inputting all the data, following the list on the accompanying pamphlet... The product is working well and am happy to use it.

It continues the reliability and accuracy found with earlier models. It is easy to set up, easy to read and easy to reset, if necessary. It is a very attractive unit.

Probably my fault but I didn't see anything about how small this was! Can't read unless you're very close. Also, it was somewhat difficult to program. Disappointed overall.

The humidity is even reading differently than the other wireless thermometer we have. I can only guess that this is completely inaccurate.

I love it, I place it on my sun-room and the wireless sensor on my porch. The temperature is always accurate (I have other thermometers). Very accurate!

This is just a piece of plastic on our wall. It does not work. A total waste of money, unless you want to know the indoor temperature only.
