Editorial Review

The JJRC Toy company is one of several firms, including Cheerson, WLToys, and Hubsan, offering a range of remote-controlled products, different but similar in their builds and styles, typically at a lower price than their more prestigious competition. The H98 compares favorably to other H9 models, trading in – in this particular comparison – some flight range for those handy propeller guards. Where the H98 really shines is in price: for just under $25, a sleek little FPV drone like this can safely be considered a steal.

If you've been looking at higher end drones, you should quickly note that improvements to flight quality, battery life, and other elements don't always scale perfectly with price. This is particularly calculable in the case of flight times; take, for example, the beautiful Phantom 4. For roughly 35 times the price of the H98, you can get a lovely drone with a bevvy of features that only flies for four times as long as this humble drone. The utilitarian in us can't help but salivate at the prospect of buying four H98s for just over 11% of the cost of the Phantom, and flying them one after the other for about as long as that one Phantom could fly.

Now, as you're likely wont to point out, the Phantom also films at 4K HD at a rate of 30 frames per second via an automatically stabilizing gimbal camera – to which I'd respond, point taken. However, if you're in the market for a quiet, agile and fairly durable bargain FPV, then you'd be hard-pressed to do much better than the JJRC H98.

I was really surprised with the overall value of this little quad. I have spent more money on quads that don't fly well. I've been having a lot of fun flying this one...

It's a cheap, fun quad, but let down by the sloppy prop shaft bearing construction. If they had gotten that right, it would have been a gem...

This is probably the best quadcopter that you can get for under $20! I love flying it, and it is very easy to learn how to fly. The camera module is really cool.
