Editorial Review

Most automated pool cleaners are plug and play. You just plug them into an electric socket on a long cable and drop them into your pool, where they can play. The Intex Auto Pool Cleaner, however, requires a hose connection to the outside world. This brings water into the unit, which it uses to sweep around the interior surfaces of the pool. This may seem inconvenient, but it keeps the price of the unit low. You can pick this unit up new for less than a lot of pool cleaners are going to cost you new.

Another disadvantage of the Intex is that it won't work with in-ground swimming pools, only above-ground models, so once again bear in mind that it's cheap. And it will clean the entire pool automatically, without human intervention once you've hooked it up and dropped it in. Another disadvantage is that you'll have to supply your own pool filter pump that can channel water at a rate between 1,500 and 3,500 gallons per hour, but that's why it doesn't cost much. You'll probably pay more for the pump than for this cleaner.

It works as a vacuum, not as a brush, so you'll suck up a lot of junk and churn a lot of water through the unit. To summarize, buy this pool-bot only if you need a mobile attachment to your filter pump. The Intex is more an accessory for your filter pump than vice versa.

It weighs 15 pounds, so you shouldn't have much problem lugging it from the shed to the pool. It comes with a 24-foot 7-inch hose to connect it to the pump. If you want to pay more but get a pool cleaner that's a little more capable, take a look at some of the other cleaners on the market. Some places you might start include the Aquabot Pura 4X, the Smartpool SmartKleen and the Solar Pool Technologies Solar Breeze, which skims along the top of the pool (no depth cleaning) but does so using the sun for energy and stores up enough power during the day to continue cleaning for two hours at night.

It does a beautiful job with very little maintenance. I highly recommend this product...I only spend about 15 minutes a week maintaining the sweep.

It was easy to start using...works like the Polaris line of cleaners...only real complaint is the vac moves too fast. It tends to stir up debris when it flies by.

It is working perfectly. I love it. If it slows down just clean out the net and it will work well again. Definitely recommended.

Works great! My pool stays spotless. Easy to install and take apart. But you do need to have a sand filter. The pumps that come with the above ground pools will not work.

It worked excellently for our 26 ft round Intex pool...This one is way cheaper, very heavy duty and really easy to use! I would highly recommend this to anyone.

I wasn't expecting much, but instructions were easy to follow...Well worth the money and now I can spend my time doing other stuff, and not sweeping the pool!

Best investment and time saver...I turn it on before bed and turn it off when I wake up and the pool floor is crystal clean and ready for the day to be used.

It works great...You have to clean the screen pretty often if the pool is very dirty but it did a great job. This only takes a minute so it's no big deal.

This vacuum did it's thing without supervision. There were a couple of missed spots but the vacuum is maneuverable enough that it can be manually directed.
