Massage chairs may sound like an expensive luxury and for some people they probably are. But if you need regular massages for medical reasons, like nerve and muscle problems, then a massage chair is more than just a luxury. It can be a life-changing necessity. And if you're thinking about getting one, note that your insurance might pay for it. Now call your doctor for a prescription and start picking out a spot in your living room.
According to long-time massage chair manufacturer Human Touch, the technology that runs their HT-135 massage chair is "the preferred technology of the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists" or ACCO. This would sound more impressive if ACCO weren't one of at least half a dozen chiropractic organizations, but it's something. They refer to their tech as Human Touch Technology®, an interesting and perhaps deliberately ironic name for something that doesn't actually involve human fingers. The HT-135 gives its occupant a three-dimensional massage, which presumably means that it doesn't just vibrate but pokes and prods in a pattern resembling those used by professional massage therapists. It's capable of five different massage functions: rolling, kneading, compression, percussion and a kneading/percussion combo, four of which operate at two different speeds. The footrest includes a rotating calf and foot massager that Human Touch says feels like "strong hands."
If you have problems that need a masseur but that's not, for whatever reason, an option, a massage chair like the HT-135 or the similarly expensive Infinity Escape is worth looking into, though you may have a panic attack when you look at the price tag on a new one. It's possible the chair might treat panic attacks too.
Are you calling the doctor for that prescription yet? Honestly, you might be able to get your insurance to pay for this. If not, you could always mortgage the house. Or look for a used model.
