Honeywell's Prestige HD was a technical force. Its temperature adjustments were razor sharp and its information output was massive. Sure, it required a major investment. It cost hundreds of dollars. It required an HVAC technician to install. But for the homeowner passionate about temperatures and air density and barometric pressure, it was a meaningful investment and labor of love.
How about its sequel?
The Prestige 2.0 HD came out three years after the original, and the first thing users might notice is its slimmer physique. At six pounds, the original Prestige HD was a threat to plummet from its wall mount. The Prestige 2.0 weighs in at less than a pound.
One feature that has not lost any weight is the price tag. It's as hefty as ever. But like its predecessor, the Prestige 2.0 HD is a choice for spirited home meteorologists. One owner commented that he made his purchase in the first place because of the unit's high marks in a consumer reports magazine. It's this audience of researchers, scientists, and tinkerers that will get the most satisfaction out of the Prestige 2.0 HD.
However, Honeywell did make the effort to follow up on the Prestige HD with a more user-friendly experience. As a result, users have lauded the Prestige 2.0 HD for its accessibility. Its wifi setup is simple and quick and its interface is navigable.
That doesn't mean it's all plug and play. Exterior installation still belongs in the hands of a professional or someone familiar with HVAC systems.
Shoppers pursuing the most contemporary smart thermostats should consider Honeywell's Lyric. Even further upmarket is Google's Nest. The 1st Generation, 2nd Generation, and 3rd Generation learning thermostats all come from the design team behind the original Apple iPod. Even more affordable is Tado's Smart AC Control, a supplemental device to existing air conditioning rather than a new installation.
By all accounts, the Prestige 2.0 HD is a terrific smart thermostat for homes. It's sturdy and reliable and it pumps out a fountain of information. But it requires an equal investment from its owner. For those willing to put in the time and money, the Prestige 2.0 HD is a rewarding device.
Very nice interface. easy to use and the wifi connection was a snap to establish easy to control from remote locations. A bit pricey but well executed.
This is the most user friendly thermostat I have ever owned. I purchased it because it was recommended by Consumer Reports and I wasn't disappointed.
All in all, this thing is awesome and I love it!
Very useful and very easy to control.
Saves time and money, great way to upgrade outdated equipment.
