Editorial Review

The Homedics Ellia Reflect looks almost exactly like the Homedics Ellia Thrive and the Homedics Ellia Rise, as though someone has figured a way to flatten the bottom of an ostrich egg and mount it on a wooden pedestal, like a giant pawn in a living-room-sized game of egg chess. This is in no way to say that it's unattractive. In fact, it has a kind of minimalist charm, enhanced by its ability to glow in multiple LED colors, providing your room with changing spectral illumination in those hours when you're, say, sleeping, or bathing in a dimly lit tub. The Reflect is the mid-priced model in Homedics collection of Ellia eggs, though the price difference between the models isn't huge bought new and may be nonexistent bought used.

So how exactly does the Reflect differ from the Rise and the Thrive? All come with a selection of three essential oils, Orange and the imaginatively named Pay Attention and Fight It, and will diffuse these aromatic fluids into the air of your home. Like the Thrive, the Reflect also plays music (the Rise only makes relaxing sounds), but the top of its egg-shape is more flattened, as though the ostrich sat on it too long. It comes with a remote control that operates the music, the light and the level of aroma (up to 14 hours worth of odoriferous pleasure on the intermittent setting). It will look good on top of a lamp table, where it will doubtlessly be mistaken for a lamp.

You can buy additional essential oils, from Ellia or any other essential oil entrepreneur, and you'll probably want to do so fairly soon, because those samples that come with the package are only 2 milliliters each. We took the liberty of seeing what other imaginative names Ellia has applied to its oils and found, in addition to the inevitable Eucalyptus and Lavender, oils with evocative names like Bandit, Sleep Tight and Head Ease.

If you're trying to get away from that egg-shaped look, you'll also want to look at the Gather and competing diffusers like the Miro CleanPot and the Welledia Wellspring.
