Editorial Review

Here's what Homedics Ellia products have in common: They use ultrasound to fractionate essential oils and release them in an aromatic mist from a hole on the top. Most of them glow in changing LED colors, to cast a chromatic mood on a darkened room or just to make the unit look prettier. Some of the models make mood-appropriate sounds, changeable by remote, or play music, also selectable by remote. Here's what's different about them: Their shapes. Some are shaped like domes. Some are shaped like baskets. Some are shaped like bowls. Some are shaped like vases. The Homedics Ellia Awaken falls into the bowl category, though it's more spherical than your typical bowl. Like all the Ellia units, it's attractive and would look good on a shelf or a lamp table or even on the counter in your bathroom, if you enjoy a soothing bath accompanied by the aroma of essential oils.

The Awaken also comes with samples of essential oils, just enough to get you started. After that you have to buy your own, though they don't have to be Ellia brand essential oils. Any brand will do. The sample aromas that come with the units always seem to be the same three aromas: Orange, Pay Attention and Fight It. (The latter two sound more like commands than aromas. Pay attention, damn it!) There's no indication in Homedics promotional literature that the Awaken makes any kind of sounds at all, much less music. Otherwise, it fits right into the Ellia model of attractive aromatherapy devices, the kind that make appealing home decor in addition to the functions they were designed to provide. A few drops of essential oils will give you six hours of continuous aroma or twice that if you have it set for intermittent release, modes that are selectable from buttons on the front of the unit.

Homedics' extensive line of Ellia aroma infusers includes the Ellia Thrive and the Ellia Gather. Meanwhile, over at the competition, you can find the Welledia Wellspring, the Serene House Scentilizer Donut and the simple, washable Miro CleanPot.

I love everything about this product. It adds style to the room aside from it's intended purpose. Don't have any issues with the buttons. The ceramic lid is very sturdy.

Received this as a Christmas gift (via Amazon) and it works wonderfully. It also looks really nice even when the light is not on. Makes my house smell great!

It works well, until it doesn't work at all. The power button that started the diffuser stopped working. Does not hold up for daily use.

Worked one time, buttons are loose and will not turn back on. Too expensive to not work.

This is a beautiful diffuser and I love that you also get a starter pack of oils with it. Love it!
