When compared to a car or jumbo jet, a bicycle seems fairly unobtrusive. But in a studio apartment, car trunk or elevator, it can seem pretty big indeed. E-bikes such as the Cyclamatic Pro Dual Suspension Foldaway offer the benefit of portability to ride-ability. The Cyclamatic folds in half and has a removable front wheel for easy storage. But for now, this feature is not standard. Some e-bikes are downright monstrous, as is the case with the 180-lb. Gigabyke Groove. For a super lightweight e-bike that is both portable and collapsible, the G3 from Gocycle is perhaps of some interest.
The Gocycle is the product of Karbon Kinetics Ltd., founded in 2002. It was unleashed unto the public in 2009, and is the first injection-molded magnesium alloy bicycle in history. It features interchangeable, side-mounted front and rear wheels, which make fixing a flat tire and disassembly pretty straightforward. It has an integrated dashboard display which provides speed, gear selection, and battery status. There is one-button, on-demand power for the micro motor. It comes with Cleandrive, a 3-speed, fully enclosed, maintenance-free chain drive. The 500-watt motor gear drive gives continuous assistance according to pedal input. Shifting is programmable and automatic. The battery is an in-frame, 22V lithium-ion that gives a range of up to 50 miles at speeds of up to 20 mph, and it takes about 5.5 hours to charge. There are multiple riding settings, front and rear hydraulic disc brakes, rear suspension, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Gocycle's stem is quick-folding with reach and height adjustment, and the saddle is height adjustable as well. Fold-down pedals are optional, though they would come in handy during the disassembly process. Once compacted, the Gocycle can be placed into an optional storage bag and carried. Its weight is approximately 35 lbs., and its carrying capacity is 220 lbs. The Gocycle website is slick, simple to navigate, and has cool animated videos. Overall, a sophisticated addition to the e-bike roster.
G3 benefits from loads of updates, the battery has seen significant upgrades too...now offers an improved charge & sleep management.
I love my G2 but the improvements that Gocycle have made to the G3 meant upgrading was a no brainer.
