If you need an automated pet feeder that will provide regular feedings for your indoor pet, be it a cat, dog, fish or turtle, there's certain to be something in the current crop of robotic feeders that will do the job. And if you want to feed your pet dry food or wet food, six months worth of food at a stretch or just a few days worth, there's a company out there that will sell you a way to do it robotically. You can even buy auto-feeders with video cameras so that you can see or talk to your pet as they hungrily gobble up their kibble.
If you have an outdoor pet, on the other hand, you're out of luck.
Unless you buy an Ergo Outdoor Pet/Pond Feeder, one of the very few automated outdoor pet feeders on the market. Ergo Systems advertises it as being appropriate for an entire zoo's worth of animals that spend either all or part of their time outdoors. These include cats and dogs, yes, but also ferrets and horses. And the company doesn't discriminate in favor of land animals. The Ergo Feeder can also feed fish, the kind that live in ponds rather than in aquariums, and it can serve up seed for wild birds.
The Ergo Feeder, which resembles an office water cooler, doesn't just feed animals. It can be used to add chemicals to swimming pools and septic tanks. Indeed, it can probably be used as a water cooler too (though this isn't one of the recommended uses).
If you're in the market for something like the Ergo Feeder you should also look at...well, it's difficult to say, because there isn't much that can do as much as the Ergo Feeder can.
This product saved me when I had to go out of town for a week. It worked perfectly and did its job.
Yes, the feeder is not perfect, but it is the best one available.
