The Eheim Autofeeder is a fairly fancy model of automated fish feeder, with a digital LCD timer that can be set for up to 8 feedings of food in amounts that are determined simply by how wide the sliding door is open. There's a fan inside that keeps food dry. The Autofeeder comes with a C clamp so it can be attached to the side of the aquarium, or it can be placed on a shelf with the food barrel over the aquarium.
Let's face it: Fish are a cheap date. Sprinkle a little food on them once or twice a day, keep their bowls and their water clean, and they'll give you hours of joy and beauty. Unless you decide to leave town for a week and you don't have a reliable neighbor or house sitter to perform basic piscine maintenance in your absence. Fortunately, there are automated fish feeders. While they may not clean the bowl or replace the water, they'll make sure the mollies and tetras get a steady supply of fish food when you can't be there to do the job yourself.
As fish feeders go, the Autofeeder is relatively expensive, but it's still costs pocket change compared to a cat or dog feeder. Still, if you want something genuinely low-cost, the Zoo Med Bettamatic is the one to look at, though it's pitched at Betta owners. As with most automated conveniences, you'll have to decide what features you want and how convenient you want the process to be. The Autofeeder's digital timer, built-in fan and ability to store up to six weeks of food are probably what you'll buy it for, but check out lower end feeders if that's more than you need.
The instructions were clear, and the programming was simple. The unit handles the large Hikari pellets easily. Overall, very satisfied!
I love auto feeder, so handy for my busy life style. Its been 2 weeks now and its fantastic for my mollies and tetras.
There is also a small fan built into the unit. It runs when the hopper rotates and helps to circulate air through the hopper to keep the food dry.
They are also called air feeders due to a fan used to feed air into the food container when it activates, to help keep the food fresh.
It's been working for years and I can forget the chore of feeding. I refill about once per month when cleaning the tank. Totally recommend this product.
I've been very pleased with this item. I used the pellets fish feeder and it works great. It feeds my fishes on schedule and it doesn't cloud my aquarium.
Works flawless with pellets, but with large flakes if you don't open the cover enough the flakes can clog it not allowing enough food to drop.
I was impressed with how easy it was to set the amount of food dispensed. And I was afraid it couldn't be set to distribute small amounts, but it did.
It is very simple to setup and use, you can do up to 4 feeding cycles per day with the ability to either do a single drop of food or double drop.
It is also easy to set up and program and I have also found that the batteries last a really long time. Very impressed would recommend to others.
