Editorial Review

With the expanding product line comes the problem of creating upgrades while the earlier versions are still on line. The new version cannot but help to make the old versions look inadequate and inherently disappointing. Why buy version 1 when version 4.0 has already been released and version 5 looms imminent? There is also the risk of alienating those customers loyal to the earlier versions -- What?! Version 2.7 isn’t good enough all of a sudden?! Many upgrades are welcomed as intrinsically logical. Others are variations on functioning systems that users have become accustomed to, which can lead to resistance.

With the Winbot W series, Ecovacs has in fairly short order released three versions of essentially the same product. To their advantage, the auto-window washer is a fairly new addition to the bot revolution, so most won’t have favorites developed. The Ecovacs Winbot W730 kicked off the W series with a logical square cleaning element, as most windows exist with corners. The round buffer-wheels of the competing Hobot 168 seem counter-intuitive when faced with Winbot’s geometric logic and spatial accommodation.

The prime difference between the W930 and the W730 is in its cleaning pattern which reduces the time required to cover the designated work area. The W930 also utilizes a 4-sided cleaning pad as opposed to front and back pads on the W730. While the Ecovacs Winbot W830 indicated a capacity to clean virtually all windows short of stained glass, the W930 does not purport to optimal function on filmed windows. The proprietary SmartMoveTM System allows the W930 to deviate from its 4-stage cleaning process and navigate independently, which is apparently good for smaller windows. It works its cleaning magic on framed or unframed glass, mirrors and even doors.

Overall, most homes don't need this and will not be satisfied by the result. Instead of reducing my time cleaning, it increased it.

I would only recommend this robot if you have very large windows or very high windows that are difficult to clean. For normal sized windows, this robot is not worth the price.

The cats were at first terrified, now they love it! I love having it clean a window, while I'm on another chore.

My windows have never been that clean! This robot does it better than me. I am so happy I will never have to clean my windows again!

The robot has some difficulties on the edges of windows that have rubber seals.

Does not work. Robot is simply immature and stupid. Played over 1 hour around - not even the remote control works as it should.
