Declared the "most popular robot vacuum on Amazon" by USA Today in 2017, the Ecovacs Deebot N79 brings automated vacuuming to the masses of folks who simply cannot afford the exorbitant prices of a new Roomba. While the considerable price difference between the N79 and a high end vac-bot mean certain differences in features and suction ability, thorough examination of this bot reveals that it has quite a bit of value to offer for those who are sick of pulling out the vacuum themselves every time some crumbs and dust grace the floor with their unwelcome presence.
When cutting prices to release a value-priced version of anything, extraneous gadgets are the first things to be tossed. It has only the most basic sensor equipment, enough to keep it from driving itself down the stairs and little else. It will impact with things left on the floor, so do keep those full wine glasses away from your N79 while it is operating. The N79 is operable either from the downloadable smartphone app (which features information regarding battery life, cleaning status, and more, and from which you can set a variety of cleaning patterns and behaviors), or, for those off the smartphone grid, from the accompanying remote controller, an option that may be seen as quite welcome for the less technologically savvy purchasers of this product. Some issues are reported when the N79 transitions from carpet to wood floors, but if it can manage those transitions, the bot is reported to have above average suction power (and does an overall decent cleaning job, thanks also in part to the v-shaped bristles adorning the bottom brush), rarely if ever getting stuck in the various way these little bots tend to get stuck.
I use this about 3 times a week to clean the entire house and it keeps my floors super clean. It's easy to empty and the trash bin holds a lot for such a tiny vacuum.
The remote is convenient. I don't have to do anything to the actual vacuum other than empty it. I was super impressed by how smart it is.
