Editorial Review

At our present rate of ambulation rejection, future humans will no longer use their legs for walking so much as for sartorial adornment. But until that joyful day, we still need a way to get around. Driving is great and all, but with the population predicted to surpass 10 billion in a decade and with the majority living in cities, fossil fuel-burning vehicles will become unsustainable. To ameliorate this, we can lean on personal transit vehicles, or PTVs, including the ubiquitous electric push scooter, to make short trips. The adult versions of these scooters are effective methods of last mile transportation and for minor commutes. One company that specializes in such vehicles is E-TWOW -- pronounced as E-2 -- headquartered in China and Europe. That is some headquarters.

Their S2 Booster is a serviceable example of portable urban mobility. Weighing approximately 24 lbs., the Booster can go up to 18 mph, which is slightly faster than the comparable Glion Dolly. The Booster's handlebars fold down in addition to the body, which folds up. Some of its safety features include front and rear shock absorbers; a double magnetic braking function -- a regenerative front brake and an emergency rear brake -- a zero-start function, LED lighting, and a horn. Maximum speed is set at the factory in accordance with regional speed laws. The Booster's motor is a 500-watt, brushless DC, and the battery is a lithium polymer that should need only 2 hours to charge. The body is aluminum alloy and the tires are airless -- no flats for the Booster.

But wait, there's more! The E-TWOW Booster features a Uniblock Human Interface which has function commands for throttle and braking control; both braking and speed are thumb-controlled. An LCD display shows speed, battery level and percent, and light status. The Booster has an impressive grade ability of 25 degrees. An automatic cruise control function activates via the right thumb once the speed is kept steady for 5 seconds. The Booster can handle up to 275 lbs., so in general, this scooter is definitely not for kids. Users have commented on the extremely powerful brakes which take some getting used to. But this is also an extremely highly rated vehicle. So get used to it.

In addition to the electric brake system, this scooter has a rear skid brake. This brake fits around the back wheel and obviously makes the whole scooter stop in a hurry.
