With every quadcopter and its brother struggling to come up with the perfect design variation of the DJI Phantom or Parrot AR Drone, it is refreshing to see the rare ones break from the mold. The nature of the quad is design-restrictive – there are only so many configurations of 4 rotors that will fly with controllable regularity. The Phantom’s X and the AR Drone’s rotor-guarded, figure-88 shapes have proven themselves aerodynamic fliers, and most quad manufacturers to follow have shown little inclination toward reinventing the mousetrap. It works, people are buying it, clone it!
DJI themselves broke the mold with the DJI T600 Inspire 1, which appears to have inspired the Walkera Voyager 3 GoPro down to the enhanced camera package. Walkera kicked out the design jams with the work-horse Walkera QR X900, a payload-hauling hexcopter that can be downgraded to a quad. On the lower end of the spectrum, many of the toy manufacturers modify the standard design with their tiny quads. Dromida decided to try their variation with something a little bigger.
The Dromida Vista UAV has a very compelling design with a space-craft fuselage and almost architectural outriggers. The rubber landing pads on the bottom of the rotors give it a super low center of gravity and assure you that it won’t land in high grass. It comes ready-to-fly in a handy carrying box, and even has batteries for the controller. Charge it up and send it aloft. Boasting impressive flight times of up to 15 minutes, the Vista comes with a USB fast charger to get it back in the air quicker. The durable plastic frame is light and resilient, with high intensity LEDs in the undercarriage for orientation and tracking. A singular exception to the near ubiquitous 6-axis gyro, the Vista UAV has a 3-axis gyro with 3 accelerometers for smooth flight. The accelerometers can be disabled to offer the operator greater control. The remote is toy-grade but not a repurposed game controller like many of the low ticket fliers. It has 4 flight modes and can perform one-button flips.
Great drone to hone your flying skills, good battery life, durable and fun.
It has a very short run time, it says it’s very durable but after 5 flights, one of the motors quit working. Not worth the money!
I purchased this drone for my father for Christmas. He wanted one that wasn't super expensive... He loves this drone! He flies it outside and it works splendidly.
Opened the box to discover there was no drone. I had all the accessories just not the drone. Highly disappointed!
For a backyard quad this might be the perfect size ... I get asked a lot about an entry level quad and I think this is my new go-to recommendation.
