It's a bit surprising to see the Australian company Breville, which specializes in chrome-plated bean-to-cup or grinds-to-cup espresso makers, coming out with a machine that uses Nespresso pods. But Breville's reputation for allowing the user to tinker with temperature and grind settings to fine tune espresso production to a level rivaling the super-expensive machines at Starbucks suggests that if anybody can squeeze a great cup of espresso out of a pre-manufactured pod, they can. The Breville Nespresso Creatista Plus uses first-generation Nespresso pods, which can be purchased inexpensively in third-party knock-offs. (It can't use the more expensive second generation Nespresso pods.) One feature that the Breville has that other Nespresso machines don't is the ability to set the temperature of the water to well over 200 degrees, squeezing more flavor out of the pods that the typical pod-based machines can.
There's a built-in steam wand for preparing the milk froth at temperatures between 133 and 166 degrees Fahrenheit. (Dual boilers allow different temperatures for the milk and the espresso, another feature not typically found in pod-based machines.) A frothing pitcher is supplied in the box. The 1.5-liter water tank clips to the back of the unit and can be snapped loose for filling. The drip tray in front also snaps loose and has an indicator to tell you when it needs to be emptied. The boilers heat up in three seconds for a quick cup of espresso in the morning. Empty pods are dropped into a removable tray that pops out the front. The machine can be programmed to produce a ristretto, espresso, espresso lungo, capuccino, latte, flat white or latte maccchiato, quite a variety for a Nespresso machine.
Reviewers on Amazon give it four-and-a-fraction stars, though most are comparing it with other Nespresso machines. For a more expensive Breville machine, see the Oracle, which goes from beans to cup. For less expensive Nespresso machines, see the DeLonghi Nespresso Pixie and the DeLonghi Nespresso Lattissima Pro. For an excellent bean-to-cup machine at an excellent price, see the Gaggia Velasca.
Inconsistent froth. Sometimes good texture, sometimes bad.
This machine does a fantastic job regulating milk and coffee temperature and quantity. I would highly recommend this product!
I bought this machine because of the automatic frother and when that did not work I returned it. No matter where I set the frother 1 to 8 it put out the same amount of froth.
We are in love with this machine. It makes espressos, lattes, capuccinos and machiatos beautifully. And it also looks gorgeous. Simple perfection!
I’ve had this machine for about six months and like another reviewer noted here, the steam just stopped working. Great coffee, terrible quality!
This machine lets you adjust many features to make that just perfect cup. Literally, easiest, fastest coffee machine to clean after use that I've ever had. Love this product!
I have enjoyed my Keurig Rivo for the past 2 years but can not compare with the Nespresso Creatista. Absolutely beautiful machine that works as advertised.
Best present to give. Everyone has enjoyed this one! Best gadget ever!
I was very excited about the Creatista Plus, but unfortunately it has not lived up to its promise. I am very disappointed that I have had to return my Creatista Plus.
This unit has it all.. The Steam wand is modeled from the Oracle Machine. The different drink options are great. Highly recommend this machine.
