Editorial Review

As a manufacturer of automated pool cleaners, Aquabot specializes in two things: bargain prices and clean water. While other pool-bot companies emphasize how efficiently their machines are going to vacuum goo off the surfaces in your pool, Aquabot is more concerned that the water is clean and that the chemicals you use to keep it bacterium-clear are spread throughout the entire volume of the water. Like a swizzle stick gone wild, the Aquabot Pool Rover S2-40 will mix water up at a rate of 80 gallons per minute. That's a lot of mixing. Aquatbot estimates that the stirring capabilities of this machine will save you up to 30 percent on chemical usage. Aquabot also estimates that you'll only use about a nickel's worth of electricity every time you clean.

You can get to the S2-40's filter through a compartment on top, so it can be cleaned easily, which is especially useful on those early fall days when a lot of autumn leaves come floating past your window and into the water. The pump in the machine, Aquabot says, is one of the strongest on the market, but it isn't as good at cleaning the sides and bottom of your pool as it is at churning the water. It will balk if it comes to a sudden transition between pool floor and pool wall, having difficult with the corner in between the two. It will also have trouble with any part of the pool's wall that's above the waterline, so the part that the neighbors actually get to see is the part that's going to wind up getting the least clean.

This unit can handle fiberglass, concrete, gunite, tile and vinyl pool surfaces and it can handle pools of any shape, from lap pool to kidney-shaped pool. Note that the unit lacks brushes to sweep up gunk from the pool's sides, relying purely on suction, which means it's probably not going to do as good a job as a brush-based system.

If this doesn't sound like the pool cleaner for you, check out the Water Tech Pool Blaster Speed Jet, the Maytronics Dolphin Hybrid DX2 and the Polaris 9100.

We named ours Bruno. He is such s help. Cleaning out the leaves is a little annoying but this is the best way to get the bottom clean and I skim the top of the pool.

Does good job of cleaning the floor. Does not climb the walls very high, but it does vacuum very well. The filter bag is always dirty which means its working!

This device does an awesome job, and makes cleaning the pool an easy task and not a chore I always avoided. Even the fine partials at the bottom get removed.

This is the best invention ever! Works like a pro. We have a 20ft pool and we will leave it overnight and wake up to a spotless pool.

The instructions are sparse so you sort of have to figure some stuff out yourself. Just place it in and come back one to two hours later and it's magic.
