Editorial Review

Aquabot Junior sounds like it should be a cute and cuddly little bot, like Wall-E or the Anki Cozmo, but in fact it's just a discount version of one of Aquabot's more expensive models, for smaller pools. So if you have a small to medium sized pool in your yard it may be all you need. But cuddly it isn't, unless you like snuggling up to metal and plastic than will probably only try to scrub algae off you in return. You know, sort of like the way your cat will start cleaning your hand when you pet it, which could either be a gesture of affection or a hint that your level of hygiene isn't up to feline standards.

The Aquabot Junior comes with a 50-foot power cable, which is actually pretty good in a discount model but will probably run out if it has to cover more than 40 feet of pool floor. It runs on tractor-like treads that will climb pool walls while it vacuums and scrubs them. It filters debris down to two microns out of the water, which is about as good as you're going to get from an automated pool cleaner. It dumps debris into a cleanable bag that you can pull out and hose down when it starts maxing out on pool clutter. It lacks the swivel attachment found on many pool cleaner cables to avoid cord entanglement. For that you'd have to scale up to a pricier model, but that's one of the disadvantages of the discount price. With any luck, the Junior will do a good job of avoiding tangles on its own.

The Junior will also do its best to stir up the chemicals you throw in your pool, making sure they find their way to as many places as they can, so that keeping the pool clean won't be Junior's responsibility alone. Some models you can compare Junior with include the Aquabot Pool Rover S2-40, which is probably only available used; the Maytronics Dolphin Triton; and the Solar Pool Technologies Solar Breeze NX, which skims across the top of your pool and runs purely on sunshine.

To avoid clogging and to access dirt along pool edges, dirt and debris are vacuumed in through ports that are off-center.

There are no hoses or vacuum poles to mess with, and it no longer matters if wind blew dirt in the pool or it just rained after the pool was cleaned.
