Editorial Review

Let's face it: Cleaning your downstairs windows with a rag and a bottle of Windex isn't the most difficult home care task that you're faced with. But if you have second-story windows, or live in a high-rise apartment, getting to the outside of your windows is at best a precarious task. So why risk breaking your neck by falling from the top of a ladder when you can have a robot do it for you?

You'll mostly use the Alfawise S60 automated window cleaner to work on the outside of your window, but you can control it from the inside using a remote. (You'll need to run an electrical cord to it, either from the ground or from a nearby open window.) From the inside it looks a bit like an alien drone spying on your mysterious human lifestyle, though on the outside it looks more like a cute pet inspecting your dirty glass for edible scraps. The Assure is a versatile little beast. In addition to cleaning windows it can clean doors and desktops, though it may be not be as good at horizontal surface wiping as a dedicated floor mopper like the iRobot Braava 320. It can, however, handle oily surfaces as well as dusty and dirty ones. Framed glass is also no problem. The microfiber pad on the Alfawise's circular scrubbers will skim along the edge of the window much like a frisbee-shaped robovac will skirt the edge of your floors.

The Alfawise isn't fast, covering a square meter in about four minutes, but your windows probably aren't large enough for that to be a problem. Its polymer lithium cell batteries take about an hour to charge. It comes with a safety rope, so you won't lose your investment if it loses its grip. There aren't a lot of other automated window cleaners on the market as of this writing and most of them come from the Ecovacs Winbot line, like the Ecovacs Winbot W730 and the Ecovacs Winbot 850, though if you want an alternative that isn't from Ecovacs you should check out the Hobot 168
