Climate is a tricky thing. The inclement kind can wreak havoc on a massive scale as well as on an individual's health. In the 19th century, it was assumed that a dry climate could cure tuberculosis and other respiratory ailments. But for those with dry sinuses, certain skin conditions, and different lung maladies, too dry a climate can exacerbate these issues. So the portable humidifier was invented for use in the home to enhance the moisture in our lives. But because there are so many of them, picking one can be a daunting task. One could try the PureGuardian H7550, a sophisticated, point-of-use humidifier that shoots out both warm and cool air. Or for those who like that Sharper Image look with their humidity, the Dyson AM10 holds appeal.
There is also the Air Innovations MH-801b from For Life Products, an ultrasonic, dual-tank humidifier. It looks like some strange species of snail with its 15-inch extension nozzle and dual directional mist nozzles. It has a 120-hour run time, which is about 30 hours more than the PureGuardian, and should offer up rain forest conditions. The MH-801b features permanent ceramic filters to eliminate hard water deposits. With antimicrobial protection for the tanks & base, it has a built-in Humidistat to monitor the humidity setting. The MH-801B has a digital LED display and a programmable timer which enables you to turn the unit on or off in 1- to 24-hour increments. Mist output is adjustable with 5 levels ranging from Low to Turbo. There is an LED Dim function, and an Auto Safety Shut-Off for when the tanks deplete their 2.15-gallon capacity.
The MH-801b will run with only a single tank filled, and is best used in small or average sized rooms. It's BPA-free, and can be run via remote control. It should be cleaned regularly to prevent bacterial contamination which might come from water in the tanks. A solution of half-water, half-vinegar should do the trick. Most importantly, Air Innovations' website shows tap water being used, but if you have hard water, this could cause mineral build-up or a white powder to form. So it's not a bad idea to use only distilled water for this humidifier.
Couldn't believe that the humidifier was what I needed to help my sinus problem. It works great. Quiet, easy to use and has made a difference in how I feel!
This seems to be a decent humidifier. It is appealing to me that the humidifier can be low to the ground and the Mist comes out high.
Just ordered a 2nd one for bedroom. Got tired of caring it back and forth from den. Really helps with the dry nasal problems!
The humidity increase in our living room has really helped out with my sinuses and the house just feels good and fresh.
Have been using it for about two weeks, but are very happy with it so far.
This device has made a tremendous difference in my comfort level since placing it in service . . . The unit handles the job without a problem.
