AcuRite is a major player in the market for weather stations and the AcuRite 01605 falls somewhere in the lower half of their product range. It's not as serious a meteorological tool as their 01057RM or the Oregon Scientific WMR-300A Ultra-Precision Professional, but neither is it a glorified alarm clock like the La Crosse Technology 308-146 . What it will tell you is the temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and wind speed, which covers most of the things a casual armchair meteorologist will want to know. And it will give you a 12-24 hour weather forecast based on that data. Much of this information comes from its outdoor 3-in-1 sensor, but you can read it from a small desktop unit that some users complain is a little too small for easy reading.
What it won't give you that higher-end weather stations will is wind direction and rainfall amounts, so if you need to know those things you'd be better off with the higher end tools mentioned above. And it won't network with cloud-based weather services like Weather Underground to give you a better picture of the overall weather situation outside your yard, but you can look those up on the Internet yourself to see what the more serious weather watchers are seeing with their more expensive gear.
Like most home weather stations worth taking seriously, the AcuRite 01605 comes in two pieces, the outdoor sensor and the desktop unit. Placing the outdoor sensor where it can read the wind speed without getting so much sunshine that it throws off the other readings can be tricky and is left as an exercise for the dedicated backyard tinkerer. It can take as much as a month for the unit to calibrate its readings with your location, so don't expect complete accuracy from day one. With some patience, it should come around.
Totally impressed! Everything you need to know in a simple display! Accurate and nice size display! Easy 1-2-3 assembly of the unit.
The screen has everything I need for the weather. I researched a lot of these stations and this one is the best.
Pleased with weather station. Easy to see display. Easy to setup and install.
Temperature and humidity readings seem accurate. I think the wind speed indicator reads low. Will try to confirm levelness of unit.
Perfect for the amateur weather watcher. Forecast is very accurate.
