Editorial Review

Compared to some of their flashier units, like the 01517, AcuRite's 01015 looks a bit drab, with a monotone LCD display that packs a lot of information into a dull-looking package. But if you aren't shopping for a weather station that will make your home office look like the bridge of a starship, it comes with some powerful equipment, notably the 5-in-1 sensor that AcuRite includes in their higher end combos. And the amount of weather data on the display is impressive, if you don't get tired of looking at a black-and-white (or dark gray on light gray) readout.

Once you've got the 5-in-1 sensor set up in your yard and broadcasting weather data to the indoor component, you'll get local readings on the temperature, humidity, wind direction/speed and rainfall, which the unit calibrates to your location over the first two weeks. The indoor unit supplies barometric pressure and the indoor temperature, tosses in heat index and dew point, and lays this out in columns for your meteorological enlightenment. It crunches the data into a weather forecast icon, not as pretty as the ones on the color display models but still providing weather at a glance. And this model has AcuRite's high-end ticker tape weather streamer, which you can program to provide whatever information you want it to, including weather alerts for your area. And, of course, it displays the date and time.

If you don't want the color display, this is a good buy for the price, though there are good models for only a little more with much better looking indoor units and the 5-in-1 sensor to boot. AcuRite has so many different packages for their weather info that you can probably find what you want in a weather station somewhere in their catalog, but there are competitors offering serious (and sometimes not so serious) equipment that competes strongly with AcuRite's offerings, even if these competitors don't offer as many variations on the system as AcuRite does. Look at the Davis Instruments Vantage Vue, the La Crosse Technology 308-1412S and the Netatmo NWS01-US.

This weather station has exceeded our expectations! We get terrible wind and it just keeps on. Very sturdy and so well priced. Can't live without it now!

This product didn't last very long. No signal inside batteries. All are new, still no signal. I would not recommend it!

Bought one two years ago, it failed after one year, sent in for repair. One year later failed again. Temperature shows -40 degrees constantly, here in Florida? Poor quality!

I love everything this weather station offers but the BLUE background light prevents you from being able to read anything. This is terrible for the price tag.

I love it! The weather station was easy to install. I followed the straight-forward instructions and the base station synced with the weather station on the first try.
